Northumberland County is very large. Spanning 1,097 square kilometers, from approximately Newtonville, along Lake Ontario to Brighton, northeast up to Campbellford, to the south shore along Rice Lake, to County Road 28, at Bewdley.

The County includes the Municipality of Port Hope, the Municipality of Trent Hills, Municipality of Brighton, Hamilton Township, Alnwick/Haldimand Township, Township of Cramahe, Town of Cobourg and Alderville First Nation.

Northumberland County is a magnet for those who are attracted to an active lifestyle or nature pursuits. With a 118 km Trail Network, cross country skiiing, ATV’ing, snowmobiling, hiking, horseback riding, boating, cycling or group sports, there is something for everyone here.

Between the natural beauty of the Conservation Areas, the Farms, Wineries, Craft Breweries, Arts & Culture, Festivals, Orchards, Greenhouses, Cottages, Boating, the multitude of other activities and the tremendous community spirit, you can have it all in Northumberland County.

Northumberland County Amenities & Attractions

There are many artists, farmers, self employed and career people with a wide variety of skills living in Northumberland County. 
One thing Northumberland has in abundance is nature, recreational opportunities and community spirit.

Northumberland is home to two provincial parks – Presqu’ile Provincial Park in Brighton and Ferris Provincial Park in Campbellford. Other protected natural areas include Nawautin Nature Sanctuary in Grafton, Ganaraska Forest, Northumberland County Forest, Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area, Warkworth Conservation Area, Seymour Conservation Area & Peter’s Woods, as well as other smaller parks and trails.

Many Trails exist here. Hike, cycle, horseback ride, ATV, off road motorbike, cross country ski, snowmobile, snowshoe – there is a trail fore every sport (check each trail for acceptable uses).
For cyclists there are five signed bike routes – Presqu’ile Promise, Trent River Truckin’, Shelter Valley, Rice Lake Ramble & Glorious Ganaraska.

Other adventures could include fishing Rice Lake, boating on the Trent Severn Waterway, sailing on Lake Ontario, visiting the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge (unless you are afraid of heights).

Try one the many Farm Stores, Wineries, Breweries, Westben or Capitol Theatre or attend the Waterfront Festival in Cobourg, go Antique hunting in Port Hope or relax for the day at St. Anne’s Spa in Grafton.

Presqu’ile Parkway Walking Trail – 2 metre wide paved trail runs along Presqu’ile Parkway from Ontario Street boat launch to gates of the park.
