Peterborough Amenities & Attractions

Peterborough is a City on the Otonabee River about 125 km northeast of Toronto. Known as the Gateway to the Kawarthas, a large recreational part of the province with many resorts, campgrounds, Provincial Parks, Conservation Areas, Lakes & cottages.
Multi-national companies are located here as well as industry attracted many years ago, as a result of Peterborough being the first town in Canada to use electric street lights, resulting in Peterborough being nicknamed ‘Electric City’.

Peterborough has a large hospital, walk in clinics and specialty medical services.

Peterborough Transit has regular bus routes and express routes throughout the City, as well as an Accessible Van Service & Community Bus. Rural Link Transit Service connects Curve Lake, Lakefield, Ennismore & Bridgenorth.

The City surrounds the only Lake on the Otonabee River, Little Lake. The Trent Severn Waterway passes through Peterborough and the world’s largest hydraulic Lift Lock, which opened in 1904.

Peterborough is well known as an education centre – many students come here to attend University, College or private school.

Peterborough is a small city – but much larger than rural towns nearby. Residents have a quieter, safer community to live in, raise their families and have a career while also enjoying a large variety of amenities, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, events & activities.
